CBS News is seeking an Associate Producer to work on the Foreign Desk with a strong commitment to journalism to coordinate foreign production and newsgathering operations for all CBS News platforms. This position helps manage CBS responds to response to breaking overseas news and responds to video and editorial requests from CBS broadcasts and web platforms. Excellent people skills are required. The AP is also responsible for making sure all platforms are aware of editorial and video developments that will be of interest to their audiences. As the Foreign Desk operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year the AP may be asked to work overnight, evening or weekend shifts and will be expected to work some holidays. The AP will occasionally fill in for the supervising Producer.
As social media plays an ever increasing role in coverage of breaking news the candidate must be familiar with all major social media platforms as well as show a degree of “news literacy” ie the ability to evaluate the validity of material from non-traditional sources. Part of this position’s editorial responsibilities is to be able to spot viral and pre-trending content and alert our platforms to it. The ideal candidate must be well-versed in the feel and best practices for social-friendly videos (including rights & clearances).
Skills/Experience

QUALIFICATIONS:
3 years local and/or network TV news experience or show producer experience preferred.
Requires strong editorial judgement & excellent writing skills.
Requires highly developed relationship building skills.
Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly-changing environment is essential.
A focus on multi-media content is required.
Understanding TV newsgathering and transmission technology.
Knowledge of foreign television markets and station relationships a plus.
Knowledge of other language besides English a plus.
