Senior Producer | Television Producer/Director II/S – Michigan State University – East Lansing

Responsibilities Include
Leads team of original content producers
Supervise and schedule local producer/directors, complying with MSU and union regulations. Manages the daily affairs of the team, keeping productions on track.
Sets and maintains creative, journalistic, station, and PBS standards for content and ensuresthat the final product is of the highest quality.
Proposes, plans and supervises local, state and national productions, including outside contracts, seeing the productions through from conception to final cut.
Ensures content is completed on time, within budget, and to agreed artistic and technical standards.
Collaborates with all departments to work collectively across the station
works with development to identify funding opportunities and grants as it pertains to local content.
Works with Operations Manager to create production budgets, and resolve internal conflict during production.
Assists in the marketing and promotion of original content.
Content creation
Develop, research, and write new creative and intellectual content for various uses, with direction from Senior Director of Content and Communications.
Write/edit scripts.

Personnel Management
Supervises, directs, motivates and evaluates staff in order to assure consistency in quantity and quality of work performed.
Sets clear direction and priorities for staff of professionals and administrative support personnel. Promotes excellence through well-defined and measurable goals
inspires and motivates staff through the free flow of information placing staff members’ work within the context of the strategic priorities of the division as well as within the mission of WKAR.
Leads by example

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master’s degree in Television Production, Communication, Journalism, English or other appropriate field.
Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in media instructional development or television production
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
Demonstrates knowledge of storytelling, including: script writing, camera direction, graphic look, set design, lighting design, editing, music composition, pacing and how all these elements help to effectively communicate the message.
Experience in producing news content, live broadcast events, short form, long form and fundraising content. Strong writing skills.

Knowledge of FCC regulations and federal/state laws governing broadcasting.
Bachelor’s degree in Television Production, Communication, Journalism, English or other appropriate field. A combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration based on the applicant’s credentials.
Five to Seven years of experience producing programs for a commercial and/or public broadcasting station.
