JOB PURPOSE
• To ensure that all selected athletes are provided with the quality coaching, development, training and focussed competition opportunities appropriate for their needs.
• To ensure international trends, and gap analysis are continually considered and that intelligence and insights at Podium level is continually cascaded down the Talent Pathway in an appropriate manner.
• To develop and deploy an appropriate athlete profiling and athlete planning process for selected athletes.
• Implement a technical coaching framework throughout the Talent Pathway.
• Input into the coach development and education of the Pathway and Academy Coaches.
KEY PRIORITIES
1. Talent Development
• Ensure all selected athletes have in place Individual athlete plans appropriate for their development needs.
• Work with the Head of Talent and Coaching to develop a comprehensive athlete profiling mechanism and technical coaching framework to support the development needs of selected athletes which is age and stage appropriate.
• Work in partnership with the SLT and WCPP coaches to ensure the technical coaching framework is fit for purpose and cascaded throughout the Talent Pathway for the benefit of Pathway and Academy coaches.
• Where appropriate, undertake research projects to fill knowledge gaps identified within the Talent Pathway.
2. Pathway Management
• Work with the Head of Talent and Coaching to design and deliver a comprehensive annual plan ensuring alignment of all facets of the Talent Pathway.
• Where identified work in conjunction with pathway coaches, academy coaches and volunteers across the Talent Pathway strands (Participation, Development & Performance) in operationalising and promoting the strategic aims of the Talent Pathway.
• Ensure that all Talent Pathway training camps, logistics for travelling teams and related administration are implemented to maximise performance impact and meet the needs of all areas of the programme (management / coaches / athletes).
• Work with the SLT and lead the annual athlete review process of selected athletes including those within the ETP framework where appropriate.
• Provide necessary reports for the SLT when required on selected athletes including their progression, current development and future needs.
• Produce a draft budget and report to the National Performance Director (in collaboration with HTC.
3. Tracking and Monitoring
• Work with head of Talent and Coaching to design and deploy a National Tracking and Monitoring system that captures key development markers of identified athletes from within the Talent Pathway progressing through to World Class Podium Potential/Podium squads.
• Ensure that the Pathway Programme Performance Progression Standards are consistently reviewed and updated and that all selected athletes are plotted on these curves in readiness for the annual review processes.
• Lead on the planning of the athlete annual Performance Progression Interview process for selected athletes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
• University degree level qualification and or coaching qualification equivalent in an area of study complimentary to the role of Pathway Manager.
• A background and recent experience of working within talent development and elite sport.
• A comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of talent development, identification, confirmation, talent pathways and talent coaching.
• Ability to work within a multi disciplinary team including coaching science, sports science, medicine.
• Demonstrable experience managing the athlete profiling, athlete planning and athlete performance within elite sport systems.
• Experience of working with dispersed athletes and coaches
• Experience of delivering coach education within a Talent Pathway.
• Excellent presentation, communication and influencing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues both within PGB and from other national governing bodies of sport or organisations.
• Full driving licence

Desirable
• Prior working knowledge of Modern Pentathlon (perhaps it would be reasonable to spell out the degree of the ‘knowledge’)
• University Masters or PhD in an area of study complimentary to the role of Pathway Manager
• Level 4 UKCC coaching qualification.
• Experience of working in an elite Talent Pathway.
