AIR’s Research and Evaluation area is seeking a Research Associate to join our team in Washington, DC. The research associate would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate and planning of decision-makers at national, state, and local levels through a contract with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Our work includes the review of data, documentation, and technical and statistical reports produced using data collected as part of the longitudinal studies program within NCES.

Responsibilities
The candidate will have experience in early childhood education research and will join our longitudinal studies team. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, development of direct assessment and survey instruments, review of programmed survey instruments, data file quality assurance review, and publication content review.

Qualifications
M.A. in statistics, economics, educational policy, or other related social sciences field;
Subject matter expertise in early childhood education;
Experience working with longitudinal, federally collected, or large scale data prefered;
Familiarity with basic statistical techniques (e.g., cross-tabulations, t-tests, chi-square tests, and linear and logistic regression);
General understanding of potential data quality issues and how to address them;
Proficiency with statistical software packages such as R, Stata, or SAS/WPS;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with project staff and clients;
Ability to work under conditions requiring careful attention to detail.
